• Online Amish furniture seller opens first store

JMX Brands, a Sarasota company that has sold Amish-made furniture online at DutchCrafters.com for 12 years, has opened its first brick-and-mortar store.

The store at 3709 N. Lockwood Ridge Road "showcases fine quality American-made furniture, including the Amish-made furniture JMX Brands sells online."

"The DutchCrafters store offers customers the opportunity to speak face-to-face with a furniture specialist, get design advice, and compare wood types and finishes on the hand-picked selection of showroom furniture while having access to the thousands of products and customizations that DutchCrafters offers online," the company said.

Jim Miller and his wife, Linse, founded the company and discovered a unique business niche: helping Amish and Mennonite craftsmen reach the online market

Miller, a former Mennonite pastor in Sarasota, and his wife became the largest Internet-only marketers of Amish-made furniture.

JMX Brands takes in more than $6 million per year in orders that they route to 190 Amish craft shops, mostly furniture makers in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

While wooden furnishings are its core business, JMX is not against plastics, as long as they are used right. In fact, one of their hottest sellers is a line of heavy-duty lawn furniture made from recycled milk bottles.

JMX Brands was recently recognized for its business model and fast growth on several lists, including the Gulf Coast 500, Internet Retailer Second 500, Inc. 5000 and Furniture Today Top Furniture eTailers.
