5 Must-Have Items for the Modern Indian Kitchen

Kitchens, though an important space have continuously changing trends in terms of how the space itself is to be designed or which utensils are used and the various materials used to construct them. But it is also essential to note that with changing times, the kitchen itself has had a makeover and what encompasses the area has made a quick skip into the modern age.

Whether the utensils are cookware, bake ware or storage and serving, they have undergone a massive transformation from the time we were children to now, when most of us own our homes and are looking to shop for our kitchen.

This has been majorly because of the addition of so many different cuisines into our daily food intake. So, the utensils that we hadn’t needed before, say spaghetti tongs or a pizza cutter is now a kitchen essential. You can also say, buy a saucepan online in India and call it a kitchen must-have.

Casseroles

The storage utensil, casserole made an entry into the Indian kitchen quite late, around the 90s. As a utensil, it was a lot of innovation that was needed by Indians. It not only provided the ease of storage but also the function of keeping rotis, pooris etc. warm.

Sauce Pans

Initially, the usage of a sauce pan was not a very big essential but now with multiple cuisines being introduced to the Indian populous, it has slowly made its place in our kitchens. Pestle and Mortar

Although not a modern addition, the pestle and mortar has slowly made a comeback into the kitchen space after it had been briefly replace with a mixer grinder. With rustic cooking becoming more popular, the usage of the pestle and mortar to roughly grind ingredients together or produce a coarse paste is much in demand.

Strainers

While earlier only tea strainers were widely used in the kitchen; the modern Indian kitchen has made way for pasta strainers or colanders depending upon each dish. They are no longer only used to strain the tea leaves but also in the new dishes that are prepared by the gourmet lovers.

Skillet

While this could have been a nice replacement for the non-stick frying pan since a while ago, the skillet has been introduced into the Indian market now that Indians have learnt the beauty of simply grilling a piece of meat or fish and veggies in their own juices. They can also be used to make omelettes, pancakes etc.

It is a good addition to the kitchen and come in a lot of varieties including cast iron or stainless steel skillets.

All these and much more in the form of utensils, appliances etc. are entering the modern Indian kitchen while it is growing and diversifying.
