After a busy summer you may wonder how you are going to steam clean your carpet to reduce the dust and stains that may be present or the odors that were brought in throughout the year. You could choose to clean the carpet yourself as it is not a very difficult task but you are advised to seek the help of professionals at a carpet cleaning company. You can make their job slightly easier by vacuuming the carpet before the actual carpet cleaning begins so it goes faster and is a bit easier. The results will be impressive that it will make the chore seem quite rewarding.

What does it mean to clean your carpet through steaming?

The phrase steam carpet cleaning will help you distinguish it as a water based method of carpet cleaning different from the other dry chemical compound methods that are present and used by some of the professional carpet cleaning companies. Although it is not exactly the steam that will clean the carpet, it is the detergents applied alongside the machines which the steam or the hot water activates. This is especially the case when you hired professional steam leaners to do the job. Even they will use this method because it uses as little water as possible.

In steam cleaning, however, there is no use of professional equipment. Some companies may choose to refer to the process as the carpet shampooing, but it is essentially the same. The great advantage of the steam carpet cleaning is it does not have the toxic risks associated with dry compound cleaning. The downside to this method is that your carpet will take much longer before it is okay for you to walk on it as it uses water and drying is required.

Procedure used by the carpet companies during steam cleaning

The good companies will begin by vacuuming the carpet before they begin the cleaning as the steamers are not designed to function as vacuums. They are designed to specifically wash the carpets and take part in partially drying the carpet to extract the grime as they go. If you wish the machines work to remove the dirt, then you need to vacuum thoroughly before you begin to steam clean.

However, this does not mean the usual back to forth over the carpet either. They will begin by picking up all the toys, books or other small items that you may have on the floor and also remove your furniture to ensure there are no obstructions.

Are there stains?

If your carpet has a stain, then the carpet cleaners will first begin by treating the stains as the heat from the steam cleaner may make the stains harder to remove as the cleaning press will force the stains into the carpet pad only for them to resurfaces later back to the surface.
The professionals at the cleaning company have been trained to operate the machine better than you. They know when to go slow because the machine works to extract as much water as possible. If you leave too much water then it will cause the carpet padding to be soaked which may lead to the growth of mold, mildew or other terrible odors.

You should steam clean your carpet at least one an year. And if you have a pet in the house or you suffer from allergies or the family wears shoes in the house then you will need to steam lean more often for hygienic purposes.
