What are Insulated Windows?

Rate this Entry
Ever feel an undesired draft in your home during a cold winter’s day? Or feel like you are being roasted alive inside your own house? One thing you may not have thought of doing to solve these problems is to insulate your windows. There are so many benefits to having your windows insulated that you may not have realized.

But first, how exactly do insulated windows work?

There are various methods that you can use when insulating your windows. Some of these method may be weather-stripping, double-glazing, and putting window films, among others. You may not understand all of these just yet, but the primary goal of window insulation is to make a sturdy barrier that separates the inside of your home from the outside. Through this insulation, less heat or cold will be able to pass through your windows, and maintain the temperature inside your home at a comfortable and desirable level. Insulating your windows will make all the difference in creating a stable environment that you will be happy to live in.

Window insulation for the cold

For the winter seasons, you would want to have your windows insulated so that cold air will not be able to go through the windows. But sometimes, even if there is no air coming through the windows, the temperature of the window itself can cause the air inside to get cooler. Because of the cold window coming into contact with the warm air from the interior of your home, condensation may become a problem. This will leave your windows moist, and the air around it feeling humid. However, by insulating your windows such that they too will maintain a warm temperature, this will no longer be a problem.

Window insulation for the heat

In warmer parts of the globe, the problem is maintaining the inside temperature of your home cool. Windows with poor insulation allow the heat from the sun to enter, and leave the inside feeling hot. Proper window insulation, on the other hand, will keep the heat out, so that you can go about your daily activities without getting sweaty and sticky. Window insulation will, in turn, have an effect on your electricity consumption. There will no longer be a need for air conditioners, and will reduce the costs of having all these appliances turned on. This is the same with homes that are too cold and which make use of heaters.
