Produced since 1990, Ola marks the beginning of the partnership between Snaidero and the Pininfarina Group. Ola springs from an idea for a kitchen design that moves away from standardized visual appeal to find a new solution with essential kitchen functions. The result is a kitchen with a HIGHLY ATTRACTIVE DESIGN, which successfully provides all home functions with next generation technological solutions. In fact, this kitchen won a DESIGN AWARD FROM THE CHICAGO ATHENEUM of architecture in 1996. In 2000, the Pininfarina studio restyled it, keeping the technical content of the kitchen design and introducing new handles, new colours, a new worktop in steel and new wall units, while maintaining its curved look, the distinguishing feature that has made Ola an icon of Snaidero design worldwide. Exactly 20 years after it was first presented, Snaidero has decided to invest again in the ambitious alchemy of tradition and invention, combining the unmistakable features of a traditional classic with extremely contemporary elements. The Pininfarina studio has welcomed this challenge. The result is OLA 20, a refined and elegant kitchen design with accurate and up-to-date features. 4. Ernestomeda at “Tron designs Corian®”
Ernestomeda has marked Milan Design Week (11-17 April 2011) by taking part in the “Tron designs Corian®” exhibition on the theme of the “TRON: Legacy” movie by Walt Disney Studios, contributing a special concept kitchen designed by the AquiliAlberg international architecture & design firm of Milan. The kitchen and dining area has been produced with a special combination of DuPont™ Corian® techo-surfaces, which incorporate a high-tech electroluminescent film with great visual impact. Creativity and innovation meet design to generate a concept of immense expressive strength. The entire installation is an original project providing an amazing set that immerses users in the digital universe into which Sam and Kevin Flynn, the two main characters in the Disney 3D adventure, are catapulted. Ernestomeda proposes a visionnary and experimental project including a free standing kitchen island, a modular shelving system and a table. AquiliAlberg develops an alternative vision of a residential space where the vital interaction between the various elements, as in a natural ecosysytem, creates a flowing interplay of reactions and adjustments. The shape is moulded, curved and formed by the actions of its own constituting elements which are, in turn, influenced by the systemic variations. “Matter shapes space and space drives the movement of matter” said John A. Wheeler, collaborator of Einstein. And it is exactly this concept, combined with the extreme dynamism of “TRON: Legacy” which inspired AquiliAlberg in developing the project. The interaction of deformable surfaces, from the grid effect of the flooring to the crystalline shapes of the furniture elements illuminates the ongoing evolution of the hi-tech, ultra-versatile material from which it is formed, DuPont™ Corian®. To meet functional as well as aesthetic needs, the shelves and the cabinet, which feature sinuously curved and undulating doors in DuPont™ Corian®, are vertically alternated and repeated, creating a scultpural ‘wall’ effect, modular yet continuous. The table is aligned with the dynamic language of the whole project and, most of all, of the kitchen island, to which it is visually linked. The kitchen installation features also the combination - a worldwide first in the kitchen environment - of DuPont™ Corian® surfaces with Light Tape® high-tech electroluminescent film. “Tron Legacy technological innovation and futuristic environments, project and capture our emotions, pushing our minds towards new worlds and lands far away in time. The use of lighting effects applied to movements and the generating of a continuous flow of wrapping lines, its simply spectacular. The fluidity of the film define the rhythm, marked by skillful counterpoint and compelling music by Daft Punk”.
