Since time immemorial, windows were made from no other product but wood. However, this has now become a thing of the past, and other materials have now taken over the use of wood. Quite a number of these new materials have basically improved on the shortcomings that are associated with wood. The shortcomings of wood include serious weather effects and more.

uPVC, which is short for Un-plasticized Polyvinyl Chloride, is simply plastic. But the good thing about it is its ability to be shaped easily, which makes it easy for customers to settle for any design of their liking. This is contrary to traditional materials where the client had to rely solely on either rectangle or square shaped wooden windows.

The benefits of uPVC windows

One example of uPVC windows is uPVC windows, are long lasting with strength second only to that of aluminum or steel. Consequently, it is almost impossible for an intruder to break these types of windows.

The cost of air conditioning homes is progressively increasing, and any step geared towards reducing these costs is a welcome relief. uPVC windows and plastics are generally poor heat conductors, thus allowing minimum heat to be lost. As a result, a maximum amount of heat is retained in the room during the cold season, therefore lowering the cost of heating. This is due to the fact that very little is lost through the window. If you compare the heating cost of any premises installed with uPVCs, they record an amazing 50 % lower.

Image is everything - and as windows create a great impression on any premises, it is therefore important to have them made from a material that can easily be cleaned. Windows made out of uPVC material can easily be cleaned and hardly get stained. Regular need of varnishing is also eliminated, and in addition, the cleaning process is as simple as using a wet towel - leaving the window sparkling as if it were brand new.

Other maintenance benefits of uPVC windows

Surprisingly, this material does not rust even after being exposed to moisture or water - therefore no special treatment is required. This is unlike metal and wooden windows which are adversely affected by water and moisture and must be treated to avoid these effects.

Opening and closing windows such as uPVC windows is easy, and does not require greasing or varnishing at the joints as it is with other windows. The color does not peel or fade unlike wooden and metallic windows.

To crown it all, uPVC windows are amazingly cheap and are widely available. It is advisable to seek an expert’s advice prior to purchasing these products. An expert will advise you on how to care for and maintain these awesome windows. The product also comes from the manufacturer with instructions and recommendations on how to care for them.

Conclusively, uPVC is in line with the “green movement” in the sense that most products are manufactured from recycled material. This is contrary to wooden windows which require trees to be cut, thus damaging the environment. Metallic doors are also as a result of mining which adversely degrades the environment. So save the environment – and save on costs - and buy only uPVC windows.
