Water towers are constructed for a very specific function. Therefor they are not easily transformed for any other function. Mostly it is necessary to adjust the tower.
The challenge is than, to develop a concept in which the character of the existing water tower is enhanced by the new function.

Our client asked us to design a one story extension on the back-façade of a 1900th housing complex. Just like the extensions of the neighbours. However we noticed that the lack of space was not on the ground floor, but it was on the first floor (the bedrooms). The sleeping rooms of the children date back to 1900. The farm in Schoonrewoerd was built in the 18th century. However almost nothing can be found of its origins in the interior.
The farm has two stories: a ground floor and a second floor with sleeping rooms. De ground floor consists of two parts of 100m2 each; a living-room area and a dinner-room area with a kitchen and some remaining functions. The floor plan is an accumulation of all kind of habitations and renovations of former inhabitants. Only
Along the river De Rotte in Rotterdam stands a wooden church from 1930. The church was not in function anymore and was used as a garage for fixing and selling cars. The church was totally coverd with metal plates and looked like a hangar. At the moment of the pitch, the building was in decline. Architecture office Ruud Visser in callaboration with Peter Boer, designed a 'house in the church' for a family with two children.
