Is it a mistake to buy a futon instead of a couch?

My ten year old couch is wearing out, and I'll need to replace it. I was thinking about a futon. The futon I was looking at on the computer is solid pine with a beautiful green cover. Is it a mistake to buy a futon instead of a couch? I'm a bachelor and live alone. Could a futon last 10 years?

I don't like futons. They look cheap.

Buy a sofa bed. It looks better. Futons sucks.

I like futons. There are very practical. Unfortunately - ugly.

I'd suggest a couch if it will get any kind of regular usage. Even the high end futon's normally don't have as much support as a mid-level couch, which would result in the futon breaking down quickly. Don't buy a futon.
