Self-made seat by Matali Crasset for Campeggi

Self-made seat by Matali Crasset for Campeggi

The Self-made seat roots from a refusal of seeing sofas monopolize the living space in our homes. Playing on a profile presented in 1998, this arrangement can be changed around depending on the activities, the number of people and the time of day. It really encourages you to rearrange your space and be comfortable within.

We often say we don’t have enough room but we usually lack the tools to gain space, making the structure flourish depending on its activities, the number of people present and the time of day.

It allows for more room for the kids to leave their toys everywhere, or to briefly enlarge the area to have lunch with friends ... you can always find a reason.

The three-seater sofa becomes a column of poufs piled one upon the other to release its hold on the floor. Each individual pouf has a handle, inviting you to create a new space by inter-associating them. Self-made seat is broken down into two sizes. The larger parts can either be a back or a seat. The smaller parts can be used as an arm or a foot-rest. No need to keep all the parts together as a wall is enough for them to come together to shape a sofa or an armchair ...

The shape is clear – the square side allows to append the modules together whereas the rounded parts bring on the appeasing-side for cozying-up with our body, knee, or neck curves ...  The visible stitching emphasizes the curves, giving each pouf a simple finish. The outlining colour of the straps branches out on the cushions like the veins of a leaf.
