The early settlers of Picture Rocks were an industrious and creative people who used the natural resources of the Muncy Creek Valley countryside to produce everything from hay forks to fine furniture to ironing boards to stepladders. Inventors flourished here as well and produced numerous patents including a wagon spring, a steam and pump regulator and even a dumbwaiter for the home, to name only a few.
The early legends and stories of Picture Rocks tell the tales of great Native American tribes like the Seneca and Muncie whose rock paintings - long since ravaged by time - gave the town its name. From relics indicating primitively manufactured implements found near these rocks it seems clear that they too found the area conducive to manufacturing.
Today, Picture Rocks, like many rural communities, still holds onto its heritage of family values, hard work and an irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit. It may explain why Gary's Furniture continues to foster the same basic qualities that have characterized Picture Rocks since the 1700's.
Back in 1968, Gary Puderbaugh decided to open a furniture store on the original site of the historic Lycoming Ladder Company that would let customers have a good selection of quality built furnishings for a good price. He cultivated a personal style that helped Gary's Furniture expand over the years and keep customers satisfied.
When I bought the company from Gary in 1989, I made a commitment to continue that tradition. Now, more than a quarter of a century since the store first opened its doors, Gary's Furniture still has a solid reputation for consistently delivering the best furniture value for the best price.
Lately, we've been busy making Gary's Furniture even better. We've increased the inventory to give you a choice of hundreds of styles and thousands of fabrics. We have more than 15,000 square feet of showroom with room settings to showcase our two stories of furniture. We have two huge warehouses filled with furniture to meet your immediate needs. Gary's Furniture has grown.
