While there are many things that make locally owned and operated Hays Clothing a great atmosphere, one thing is for certain; Hays is quite literally a family affair. More than 26 years ago brothers Monte and Terry Hays set out to provide White County with more than just clothing. To say they have been successful would be an understatement. Besides providing White County with a large selection of name brand clothing and accessories at two different locations, Hays also provides friendly faces, great products, and quality customer service that can be counted on.

While it's true you can find all that you need in the way of cowboy boots, leather vest, and blue jeans, Hays Clothing offers much more then just western wear. Whether you need to bundle up for the winter, stock up on hunting gear, need durable cloths for work, or you just need something casual, Hays has you covered. They also have plenty of shoes, work boots, and a wide variety of cowboy boots. If it's fashion you are looking for you can also depend on Hays to have you caught up on all the latest trends. They have a great selection of children's and teen's clothing making it an easy one-stop shopping event for the entire family. As the store transitions from season to season you can be sure to find what you are looking for at Hays anytime of the year.

The Beginnings

Hays found its original home on Highway 367 North in Judsonia in August, 1982. It all started when brothers Terry and Monte Hays had the opportunity to buy a business when their neighbor informed them he was considering selling. From there the brothers, started a small clothing store and grew very quickly.

"The early 80's were a rough time and we were in a bit of a recession," explained Terry Hays. "With the rural location a lot of people didn't think we could make it. But with the Lord's help and a lot of long hours we just kept growing."

Hays grew so fast in fact that the brothers soon found themselves running out of space. In 1985 they bought an adjacent building and expanded their selection. Realizing they had plenty of space left over after their latest acquisition, the Hays' decided to start selling furniture and appliances. Needing more help as their business expanded the two brothers invited their father Dayton Hays to give them a hand. After owning and operating a service station for 33 years Dayton sold his business and helped his sons manage the furniture and appliance department until he passed away in 1996.

Looking Forward

After continued growth and success the Hays' once again felt the need to expand. Monte and Terry set out to open a store in Searcy in 2004 and have just moved into a bigger location in 2009. Located on Race Street, the newest Hays addition offers the same quality products and selection with a faster paced environment and a little more emphasis on fashion. The Judsonia location still has everything you need as well as the furniture and appliance conveniently next door, however the atmosphere has a more laid back country store feel then the Searcy store.

One of the fixtures that have made the Searcy location so popular is its semi-annual tent sales that last almost a month. In the spring and fall you can find a large tent in the front parking lot offering bargains on all of Hays overstock, clearance, and promotional items. Tammy Hays said they spend numerous hours organizing the event to provide customers with the best deals possible.

What We Believe

With two locations to choose from, Hays has created a successful family business unique to White County. Where else can you get an outfit for your child, buy yourself a nice new pair of alligator skin boots, and pick up a sofa all in one stop? Over the years Hays has built a reputation of quality products, great selection, and customer service that has not disappointed.

"Honesty is the one thing you can count on when you walk in the door," said Hays. "This has been a Christian business from the start and we have treated people how we want to be treated and the Lord has blessed us."
