Is there a rule for matching the dining room table wood to the floor wood?

Hi,

I've just got a place. The dining room floor is pine. I want to get a wood table but I'm not sure if I should get brown-black or birch? Or should I avoid those 2 all together?

Can anyone provide any tips? The walls are going to be basic off-white or maybe very light blue-white. I'm really a minimus kind of guy.
