We're installing a new laundry room.

We plan for a countertop area complete with a built-in laundry sink for soaking clothes.

All the laundry sinks we have seen are enameled cast iron.

But, we want a stainless steel laundry sink and don't want to install a stainless steel kitchen sink as an easy way out.

Can you please give us some laundry sink guidance?

Since you're installing a countertop area, a built-in top-mounted stainless steel utility sink can fit the bill.

Stainless steel utility sinks are a little different than stainless steel kitchen sinks. Utility sinks are ideal for laundry areas because of three main differences over standard kitchen sinks.

First, in most cases utility sinks are single-bowl style with a little extra bowl depth for soaking clothes.

Second, heavy-duty stainless steel material is usually used for construction since a utility sink will most likely be used as a work sink.

Finally, extra features can include sound-absorption technology to reduce banging noises.

Bottom line: It all comes out in the wash that a stainless steel utility sink can be a nice choice for a laundry room.
