• Kauffman's Furniture marks 75th year

For more than 75 years, Kauffman's Furniture of Petoskey provided the area with tried and true service, from kitchen to bedroom. Kauffman's serves as a one-stop shop for all home comfort needs.

Forrest Kauffman launched the business around 1938 and eventually passed it on to his son, Lloyd. Lloyd ran the business for a number of years before his untimely death in 1972. Since then, the Kolinski family took over, took off and never looked back.

Owner Dan Kolinski's business model is simple, he said.

"If we take care of the people, they will take care of us," he said.

This motto seems to work well, as the business maintained a reputation for fair prices and service throughout the years.

"As big companies moved in, we continued to maintain the best personal service we can offer," Kolinski said.

With this attitude, Dan watched loyal customers and their families return again and again for a number of years. That's because Kauffman's continues to offer top name brands at the best prices, he said.

The business is known for its immediate delivery, free set up, as well as free removal and disposal. The staff and technicians are highly trained, so new purchases can be made with peace of mind, Kolinski said.

    Kauffman's Furniture is at 1008 Charlevoix Ave., in Petoskey, across from the fairgrounds. Hours currently are 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
