• 10th edition of Dubai WoodShow 2015 running this week

    More than 230 exhibitors representing suppliers and manufacturers showcase wood, wood accessories and woodworking machinery at a leading show in Dubai, UAE, which started yesterday, April 14. The 10th edition of Dubai WoodShow 2015 will run till April 16 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

    The exhibition features manufacturers, traders, and players from related industries, who will visit to sign deals onsite.

    Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, revealed that the Municipality has allocated a budget of AED 3 billion to implement a series of projects across the Emirate of Dubai during 2015.

    He said these projects are in line with Dubai’s relentless drive towards smart city and sustainability and some of them are focused on heritage and tourism areas, including Al Shandagha area and Al Fahidi Historical District, one of the oldest heritage sites in Dubai.

    Lootah was speaking yesterday at the inauguration of the 10th edition of Dubai WoodShow 2015.

    Lootah said, "The international and local exhibitors at the show interact very effectively. The show is displaying a wide range of wood products as well as machineries that we think adds value to the regional wood industry which is witnessing huge advancements worldwide in terms of technologies and solutions. This event helps players in the region see these developments at first hand."

    Dubai WoodShow 2015 has attracted international partners and supporters,including Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers' association (Acimall), the Spanish international association (Afemma), American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), European Federation of Woodworking Machinery Manufacturers (Eumabois), FrenchTimber Association, Sweden Wood, Chinese association Lunjiao, Malaysian Timber Council, Quebec Wood Export Bureau and Taiwan Woodworking Machinery Association.

    During his tour of the Dubai WoodShow 2015, Lootah was briefed on latest developments on the timber production industry. He added that the construction sector is a key driver of wood business in Dubai as wood is a key ingredient for many houseware products used in residential projects.

    According to Future Outlook of the Wood Industry in the GCC, the UAE has the second largest construction sector economy in the GCC region with total construction projects worth of USD 21,088 million carried out in 2013 against the backdrop of UAE winning Expo 2020.

    According to Josine Heijmans, Exhibition Director at Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, organisers of the Dubai WoodShow 2015, hardwood product imports have been increasing recently which proves the relevance of this industry to the construction sector in the region.

    "At the Dubai WoodShow 2015, we display technologies used during different stages of wood production before they are exported to the other countries. There are major global manufacturers on site showcasing real production process using giant machines. This exhibition is geared towards meeting all requirements of timber products."
