Orders for home furnishings totaled $2.09 billion in February, up 7.6 percent compared with a year ago, according to a report by Smith Leonard PLLC, a financial services company based in High Point.
Sales were up from $2 billion in January.
By comparison, retail furniture sales in March rose 3.8 percent from a year ago to $8.67 billion, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
About 59 percent of survey participants reported an increase in orders year over year, compared with 70 percent in January.
Ken Smith, the firm’s director of furniture services, said future monthly sales could be higher given “we just finished what we thought was one of the better High Point markets in a while.”
