Everyone knows that colors affect our mood in numerous ways. Some have calming effect on our mindset while some tend to irritate and energize it. With this in mind, painting might just be the most important thing about refreshing the look of your home. Talking about painting, most people will instantly think about the walls, while sometimes painting wooden surfaces like window frames can be equally (if not more) important. This however, is not something that you do often so it has to be done the right way.

Material is a huge factor
Even though PVC windows are easier to maintain, nothing beats visual effect of having real wooden window frames. However, wood is too broad of a term to be so easily categorized and there are different wooden frame materials that need to be taken into consideration. Their quality usually varies based on their price range but so does their maintenance difficulty. For example, softwood frames are in most cases cheaper than hardwood ones. Still, when buying a window make sure that you know if the wood has been treated with any kind of preservative.

Preparation stage
As in any other line of work, you simply must mind the preparation stage. Before you even start, you must first clean the frame, strip it of any old paint and fill in any pores in the wood. Next, you will need to have an adequate wood painting equipment. Because this is not something you do quite often it might seem as an unnecessary expense, still a quality brush or even paint compressor are always good to have.

Necessary steps
Now, before you finally start there are two things that are an absolute imperative. First of all, you need to remove all the catches and stays from the frame before you start painting. Only wooden parts must remain. Next, try to find a way for your window to remain open the whole time. Staying alone alongside paint fumes in a closed space is in no way a good thing and it should be avoided at all times. This is why making a temporary stay to make the window open until you are done is a necessary step of percussion.

The painting itself
When you finally get the painting, the difficult part is over and the fun part is ready to start. First you should apply primer or some sort of undercoat. After this is partially dry you start applying the paint itself. In order to make the best effect, make sure that you always follow the texture of the wood with your brush. This way, you simply cannot fail.

The choice of paint
Finally, what probably matters the most when choosing the color for your wooden windows are two things. First one is your personal preference, while the second one are its immediate surroundings. The color of the walls as well as exterior wall motifs like cladding are often a determining factor. Cladding is invaluable for various practical reasons so why not enhance this entire picture with a frame color to match it.

In the end, beauty always takes time and patience. With this in mind, you should never rush with painting your wooden windows. Take time to get all the equipment you need, plan carefully and try to take as many things in consideration as you possibly can. This will make all your frame painting efforts fail-proof. What more can you ask for?
