Using a vacuum is the most common way to clean and get rid of dirt in carpets. People tend to vacuum on a regular basis, perhaps weekly or every other week, but some are doubtful that this method of cleaning is enough. You might ask other people or even experts, “Is vacuuming my carpet enough to get rid of the dirt?” and consequently, “What is the most efficient way to clean my carpet if vacuuming is not enough?”

In this article, we will clarify how effective vacuums are and list a few ways you can completely clean your carpets and rugs.

Why Should You Clean Your Carpets?

Obviously, dirty carpets are unsanitary and they can cause health conditions and irritation. Experts also say that microorganisms that our naked eyes cannot see, like molds, fungi and dust mites are thriving deep down in our carpets, which simple vacuuming cannot reach. The dusts and dirt present in it cause poor indoor air quality.

Poor indoor air quality is a no-no if you have children in your house or if someone in your family suffers from asthma and allergies. Prolonged exposure to dirt particles can also lead to chronic asthma, irritated eyes, allergic rhinitis, skin allergy and more.

Vacuuming Is Not Enough

Interior designers who specialize in allergy-free housekeeping always say that vacuuming your rugs and carpets alone is never enough. When using vacuum in cleaning your carpet, it only takes the dirt on the surface. All the dirt particles and microorganism deep within it are not removed, thus making this method ineffective.

Experts always recommend to get professional help when cleaning carpets. Every 12 to 18 months, professionals should steam your carpet so the microorganisms deep down will also die and be removed. Some experts recommend to invite professional steam cleaners every six months; if you have a pet or your place is near the road, you have to get their service every four to six weeks.

Don‘t Steam Clean It Yourself

While steam cleaning is the most effective way to clean your carpet, experts do not recommend steam cleaning your carpet by yourself. If it is not done properly, moisture will stay in your carpet and it will cause molds. Molds and fungi love soggy environment so if you steam clean your carpet and did not properly dry it, loads of these microorganisms will grow in it.
The best way to clean your carpet is to let the professional steam cleaners to do it. Certainly, vacuuming your carpet between your schedules for steam cleaning will help in maintaining your carpet clean. However, vacuuming it alone is never enough.
