Thanks for this informative information. I am sick and tired of seeing old matresses being dumped on the streets. More people should take this information on board and recycle their old matresses!

Everything man-made pretty much falls apart eventually, even mattresses. Springs will eventually loose their springiness. Padding will get knocked out. Orange juice stains might come into play, especially if you have kids. In certain areas, you are able refurbish your old mattress and offer it to charity.

You can try to take them to a recycling center to see if they accept whatever type of plastic it is. You can take them to a dump...our town has a local spring clean up drop off at certain times of the year. Will they fit in the trash?

In some areas, you can also refurbish your mattress and donate it to charity. (In other regions, it's not allowed. You can find out more about the rules in your local area at MattressDonation.com.) Still, some box springs and mattresses will be too far gone to refurbish and will have to be recycled.
