The air conditioner is not just an air cooler; it is an air conditioner, which means it conditions the air by cooling and removing excess humidity in the room.

It is difficult to live without an air conditioner in the hot humid months, but if the air conditioner stops working in the summer months and if you need to get it repaired it would be very difficult as you cannot get an AC technician in the peak summer period.

To ensure that your air conditioner keeps working perfectly even in the hot and humid months, it is necessary to maintain it. Regular maintenance by qualified professionals will ensure long life for the air conditioner.

The air conditioner compressor is the heart of the unit and proper maintenance will ensure that it keeps working properly.

Here are some tips to keep the compressor in good shape:

The compressor is outdoors and if you have extreme winters in your area, it is beneficial to cover the compressor with a cloth. Totally cover the compressor and this will protect it from the cold. Since the compressor is outside birds or other animals may try to sit on it or dirty it, so ensure that there are no birds or other animals and if there is any dust or grime wash it away.

Also ensure that there are no impediments like branches etc near the air conditioner compressor. Most air conditioners nowadays come with a high pressure switch which can be used when the outdoor temperature is really high. This will ensure the long life of a compressor.

Dirty air filters can cause an air conditioner compressor to break down. Air filters need to be clean so that the air passes easily and the air flow is proper. But if the air filter is not clean and if it is caked with dust and grime then air flow will be hampered and this would mean undue stress on the air conditioner compressor. So clean the air filters regularly and change the air filters every three months.

The condenser coil is another part which needs to be cleaned regularly. If there is dust and debris on the condenser coil then it will not cool as required and the compressor could fail over time. So just blow the dust and debris away and keep the condenser coil clean.

Air conditioner compressors have been created for longevity and can easily last for 12 to 15 years when maintained properly, so ensure that the air conditioner service is done regularly.

Usually compressors come with a manufacturer’s warranty so check whether the compressor is still in the warranty period and if it is then you can get it changed or repaired by the manufacturer.

Getting an air conditioner maintenance contract is also a wise move as the maintenance company will regularly check your air conditioner and service them. If there are any faults they will repair them then and there so that there is no problem later.
